Remember when shopping for food and other necessities was a little more intimate than heading to your nearest sprawling, big-box grocery store?
Some of the residents at Signature HealthCARE of North Florida just might. And with the recent opening of the building’s own country store, they can now relive that experience.
The project was months in the making, beginning last November, when the facility’s Chaplain Advisory Team first developed the idea. A 10’ x 20’ office was remodeled, including murals by Daytona Beach airbrush artist “Smittee.”
The store is stocked with sodas, ice cream, sugar-free ice cream, Moon Pies, Honey Buns and other goodies. Silk flower arrangements and other items often found in hospital gift shops are also available.
The store is open to residents, family members, stakeholders and others. Representatives from the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce were on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the store’s official grand opening.
“The goal is to make the facility feel less like a hospital and more like a community or neighborhood,” said Tim Hill, Chaplain at North Florida. “We are a community.”
